Course Description

  • Student will improve from present level of performance on personal IEP goals.
  • Student will practice reading fluency, reading comprehension and learn ways to read multisyllabic words.

 

Critical Outcomes

  • Be in seat when the bell rings with materials.
  • Complete and turn in assignments with name and date.
  • Come prepared with a pencil to class.
  • respect each other

Expectations

  • On time
  • On task with best efforts: legible and complete work
  • Positive behavior with self-control
  • Read outside of class for 20 minutes per day or 2 hours per week

Participation

  • 100 points given at the beginning of each term
  • points will be deducted if inappropriate behavior occurs

 

Reading Binder

  • notebook for notes (I will provide this notebook)
  • section for reading logs
  • section for classroom journals
  • section for assignments
  • section for assessments
  • Binders will be checked each term     
  • Reading Log
  • A reading log will be sent home and returned when completed
  • 20 minutes of reading each day is required, or 2 hours each week

Classroom Journals

  • classroom behaviors self-monitored
  • statement of learning recorded each day
  • points given for journals = Falcon bucks for rewards

Assignments

  • reading comprehension stories
  • activities related to reading assignments
  • EXTRA magazine activities

  • quizzes

Tardy Policy

  • 3 free hall passes given each term (each hall pass may excuse a missing assignment)
  • Enforce the school tardy policy

1 st Tardy – Student will be warned, read the policy and sign it indicating that they are aware of what the policy states.

2 nd Tardy – Student will call home to notify parent that on the next tardy, parent will be required to come in and sign a contract regarding tardy/lateness to school.

3 rd Tardy – Parent comes in and signs a contract. Student will be required to serve detention.

4 th Tardy – Parent will be contacted and 30 minute detention assigned.

5 th Tardy – Parent will be contacted and 45 minute detention assigned.

6 th Tardy – Parent meeting with student and administrator and 60 minute detention assigned.

7 th 8 th and 9 th Tardy – Parent contact and 90 minute detention assigned.

10 th Tardy – Out of school suspension and referred to Truancy School .

Extra Help

  • I am available after school until 3:30.
  • Work can be made up after school.
