COURSE OVERVIEW

Health Education offers students an opportunity to acquire knowledge, practice skills, and develop attitudes that can benefit them throughout life. Building a solid foundation of good literacy and decision-making skills can contribute to a variety of healthy choices for self and others. We will be covering topics in the content sections that make up the health core.

ATTENDANCE

Attendance is very important. You should be in class on time each and every day. Activities that are discussed can and will not be duplicated. If you miss a day, it is your responsibility to check with me for any assignment you may have missed.

 

CITIZENSHIP

Citizenship grades will be based on the following criteria:

Outstanding

             In seat when bell rings.  Always ready for class.

             Dosen't talk out of turn or bothers others.  Works when it is time to do class work.

Satisfactory

             In seat most of the time when the bell rings.  Comes to class prepared most of the time.  Sometimes will talk and bother              others. Does class work most of the time.                                                                                             Needs Improvement

             Often out of seat when when the bell rings.  Often comes to class unprepared.  Often talks out of turn and bothers others.               Does little class work during class time.                                                                                                         Unsatisfactory

             Always out of seat when the bell rings.  Usually comes to class unprepared.  Always talking out of turn and bothering                            others.   Doesn't do class work during class time.

TARDY POLICY

The classroom door will be closed when the bell rings. Any student not in the room will need to go to the ISS room before beingallowed into class.

 

ASSIGNMENTS

I will send home some assignments for parents to discuss with their student. These assignments will need a signature from the parents in order for the student to receive credit.

TESTS

Tests will be on the assigned reading material in the textbook. 

 

LATE ASSIGNMENTS

Due dates for assignments are important. All assignments should be submitted on time. Please don't ask for a time extension for your assignment. I will be flexible if you alert me ahead of time that you will be late for a very good reason.

 

Late assignments will receive no higher than a grade of 80%. After one week an assignment will receive no higher than 60%.

 

ACADEMIC HONESTY

Academic honesty is highly valued at Canyon View Junior High. A student must always submit work that represents his or her original words or ideas. Academic dishonesty could involve:   

  • Having a friend or other person complete a portion of your assignments.

  • Copying work submitted by another student.
  • Using information without proper citation.

 

GRADING

  • A = 93 – 100     A- = 89-92
  • B+ = 85-88     B = 82-84     B- = 79-81
  • C+ = 75-78     C = 71-74     C- = 69-71
  • D+ = 65-68     D = 61-64     D- = 59-61
  • F = 58 and under

CLASS ROOM VISITS

Parents, I would love to visit with you but please contact me before you visit the class. It is difficult to stop teaching to visit with you.

 

HUMAN SEXUALITY UNIT

Parents are required to sign and return a consent form. If the form is not turned in, your child will not be allowed to participate in the activities. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
